Adolescent Growth

Partial Hospitalization Program

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a structured and intensive treatment milieu that operates eight hours per day, five days per week. This program offers coordinated multidisciplinary clinical services for adolescents that are able to function at a minimally appropriate level and do not present as an imminent potential for harm to themselves or others. Unlike residential clients who sleep at the facility, teens in the Partial Hospitalization Program  go home to their families at the end of the day.  Participants in the day program have eating disorder, psychiatric, behavioral and substance abuse difficulties that require more intensive treatment than weekly therapy or intensive outpatient. PHP is the recommended next step for graduates of our Residential Program. However, completion of the Residential Program is not required for an adolescent to enroll in Partial Hospitalization.

Advantages of Partial Hospitalization

  • Partial Hospitalization is a chance for your child to spend eight hours per day, seven days per week immersed in a structured treatment program that is designed to promote healing, teach effective coping skills and incite lasting and meaningful change.  Teens in the Partial Hospitalization Program attend multiple psycho-educational groups daily, receive individual therapy up to three times per week, eat healthy meals designed by a registered dietitian and attend a state-of-the-art gym every single day.  Treatment is delivered in a cozy and spacious home-like setting in a facility that is richly furnished and colorfully decorated with all of the comforts of home.

Comprehensive Structure

The Partial Hospitalization Program is a daily milieu which is modeled to reflect a healthy lifestyle.  The day is structured around psycho-educational group therapies and academic instruction, each of which take place twice per day.  Throughout the day your child will eat healthy meals planned by a registered dietitian, visit a state-of-the art gym, attend group and individual therapy and spend up to four hours per day in the classroom. This well structured day program will help to heal your child mentally, emotionally, physically, socially and even spiritually, as yoga and meditation are also practiced at different times throughout the week.

New Environment

It is often the case that a struggling teenager’s day-to-day pattern and social influences contribute to their struggles and it becomes necessary to remove the teen from those influences in order to see a change in behavior.Partial Hospitalization is a wonderful opportunity for your child to forge a new path under the careful guidance of house staff and our clinical team.

In PHP your child will spend the day with other teens who have similar struggles. Teens in PHP lend much  needed support to each other and those who are new to the program find hope in the success stories of those who are further along in their recovery.

Family Participation

  • Adolescent Growth treatment programs consider family to be the most important element of treatment. You and your family are the support system that your child returns home to after we help them heal and develop the skills they need to succeed. Families of teens in our PHP program participate in weekly and bi-weekly family therapy as well as parenting support groups. Your participation is these elements of your child’s treatment is strongly encouraged in the interest of supporting your child and helping them avoid relapse.

Family Therapy

While your child is enrolled in our Partial Hospitalization Program, you will be invited to participate in family therapy with your child at our facility once per week.  You, your child and your child’s primary therapist will meet and explore your relationship, repair broken bonds and learn to better understand each other.

Parent Support Groups

Parents of teens in our Partial Hospitalization Program are invited to participate in weekly parent support groups.  These groups are designed to provide professional and peer support to parents of teens who struggle with mental health, eating disorders and substance abuse.  Groups are facilitated by a licensed clinician who knows your child and has participated in developing their treatment plan. Groups teach parents the same skills their children are learning in treatment and provide a safe space to talk and receive support from other parents.
