Coleen Barron, MA, LMFT

Primary Therapist

As one of the primary therapists on the unit, Colleen brings a wealth of knowledge utilizing her specialization in working with persons with mood impairments. She provides transformative individual, family and group therapy to the adolescents and families we serve. Colleen is quite versed in working with the severely mentally ill and she is proficient in utilizing researched based interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. Moreover, Colleen serves as a central member of the therapeutic team that facilitates the Weekend Restoration Groups each Saturday. The support, education and safe space provided to the clients and families during this day long intervention is one of her strengths. Colleen is passionate about helping people along their journey towards living a healthy and balanced life. Colleen loves working with a variety of people and being able to help them gain new insights and perspective, thus, giving them the tools to facilitate change.

Colleen’s clinical expertise sets her apart from others in the field. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Dominican University, River Forest, IL and earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University, Lisle, IL. Colleen’s academic career culminated with obtaining her licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She has worked with a variety of clients ranging from children to adults. Prior to joining the team at Adolescent Growth, Colleen gained experience working closely with children, adolescents, and their families, with a range of different concerns. Moreover, she has served for years in Long Term Residential Care for Adults with Severe Mental Illness. Additionally, she has been involved with, and published, in literature pertaining to research using creative arts in this population.

Colleen’s level of enthusiasm coupled with her infectious personality is refreshing and contagious. On the days Colleen is not working she enjoys gardening, her beloved furry family members (her dogs) and fixing things around the house.
