Karen Hammond, MSW, LCSW, ABD

Program Manager

Karen is a dynamic licensed clinician who specializes in treating adolescents. She serves as the Program Manager for the Lombard program and her role consists of offering nurturing support to troubled teens, facilitating the impactful Weekend Restoration Workshops for the families and providing incomparable supervision and direction to the entire treatment staff. Karen works closely with the psychiatrist and the other clinicians on the team to ensure the highest standard of care is given to each family we aid. She sacrificially dedicates herself to the team and the families each day and we are grateful to have her spearheading the team.

Karen’s academic career has culminated with her pursuing her Doctorate Degree in Clinical Social Work. Prior to that, Karen graduated from Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois where she obtained her Master of Social Work Degree. Karen is a bright woman, possessing the distinction of licensure. And, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Karen can provide the needed direction to both the treatment team and the families we serve.

Karen began refining her talent of working with young people on her 5 (now adult) children. Moreover, her home often consisted of additional adolescents living there while their parents/families where seeking mental health and/or addiction treatment. Karen has also obtained invaluable experience working with populations that have presented with trauma, addiction and various mental illnesses while working at The Veterans Hospital in Chicago with a caseload of “high-risk for suicide and/or homicidal behavior,” and at the Elgin Mental Health Center. Karen has continued to cultivate her craft throughout the years in her private practice seeing persons from 4 years old and up.  Karen also developed a program for 1st Responders who struggle with PTSD and Substance abuse. Her expertise shines through most predominately when working with persons surviving trauma using experiential trauma work.

Karen professes that she is excited to be working at Adolescent Growth as the Program Manager and asserts that, “I love this job”. Karen proudly leads the team of dedicated professionals in Lombard Illinois and the team has begun to model her genuineness and charm. Moreover, Karen affirms, “I was drawn to Adolescent Growth (AG) for several reasons:

  1. I really appreciated and fully supported the philosophy underlying the treatment design at AG.
  2. Having contact with the clients at least four times per week, with at least one of these sessions including the family, provides the client with a rich opportunity to really immerse themselves in treatment, first developing trust with the team, and then growing holistically in a therapeutic environment to the point of significant growth; this is an extraordinary opportunity as a therapist.
  3. The opportunity to work with clients as well as their families is not common enough, but working with the entire family system is essential to treatment because the entire system must heal and grow in order for the client to return to an environment that may support the gains they have made in treatment.
  4. It is an honor to be part of an esteemed clinical team, and work with other staff who share the passion of supporting the healing and growth of our clients and their families. The entire team is outstanding”.

When she is not working, three activities that Karen likes to engage in are swimming, reading/learning, and spending quality time with her beloved family and friends.
We at Adolescent Growth are indeed blessed to have her.
