Our Academic Coordinator Kyla works closely with parents and teachers to ensure a smooth transition to and from the classroom. Kyla coordinates each of our teen’s academic plans with ardent care and assiduous attention to detail. Through one of three available avenues, teens at Lombard work with Kyla to tackle their studies at their own pace and build much needed confidence in the classroom.
Kyla developed a passion for helping others as a guidance counselor assistant at Homewood-Flossmoor College Prep High School in Flossmoor, Illinois. At Homewood-Flossmoor Kyla volunteered in the admissions office helping fellow students make important academic decisions and supporting them along the way. During her time as a guidance couselor assistant, Kyla sharply honed her skills as an academic ally for those who are struggling to find their strengths in the classroom.
Kyla attended Wilberforce University in Ohio where she earned her Undergraduate Degree in Psychology and later a Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling. Kyla also spent two years working as a Shift Leader at a Juvenile Correctional Facility where she worked closely providing help and support to troubled youth. Having recently transitioned back to her home town after eight years in Ohio, Kyla says she is honored to become a part of the Lombard team as a mentor and academic counselor to our teens.
During her time as a student, Kyla participated in basketball, gymnastics, cheerleading, girl scouts and skating. Today she gives back to youth as an active facilitator in Girls Circle, a structured support group for girls aged nine to eighteen. Kyla remembers her teen years with fondness in large part due to the many reliable people in her life whom she could appeal to for help in school or in relationships; “Now I am eager to share that gift that was given to me with our clients here at Adolescent Growth.”
When she is not working, Kyla loves spending time with her family, friends and significant other. She enjoys cooking and treats herself to a manicure and pedicure once a week. She is an active Pinterest user and loves working on decorating her home. In the near future she looks forward to growing with Adolescent Growth and continuing to develop the skills that inform her career.
