Serena grew up in beautiful Santa Cruz, California. Her love of education was ignited at a young age, as she often helped her younger siblings with their homework, and she began teaching piano lessons in the eighth grade. Serena received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, where she also worked as a tutor in the writing center for several years and volunteered as an ESL teacher. After graduating, she taught reading enrichment classes for Pre-K through High School students before moving to Long Beach and beginning to work as an academic coordinator for Adolescent Growth. Her passion as an educator is helping students not just gain knowledge, but become better learners. Serena attests, “What I love most about working for Adolescent Growth is tailoring my teaching to each student. I don’t think education should have a one-size-fits-all approach, so I appreciate getting to know each student as an individual and helping them grow academically while they are in treatment.”
Serena loves music, literature, and good food. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, attending plays/concerts, singing in choir, and spending time with friends and family.
