Amy Chen
M.A., AMFT – Primary Therapist
As a central member of the clinical team at the Commerce location, Amy is delighted to share the knowledge, experience, and training she has received with Adolescent Growth and the community served. Amy was drawn to Adolescent Growth because of the warm inviting atmosphere that is pervasive throughout the facility. Since joining the team, Amy has devoted herself and all her efforts to nurturing and empowering youth who are dealing with the challenges of adolescence through individual and family therapy. Amy also aids in spearheading the daily groups with the clients in an exceptional and challenging manner.
Amy was born in Queens, New York but raised in Colorado. She eventually moved to California where she quickly recognized that she wanted to study Psychology. Her passion to help others was clear and Amy reveals that people have always gravitated towards her and told her they felt a lot of ease and comfort confiding in her because she is a good listener. Pursuing her dream, Amy attended the University of California, Riverside and was granted a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, followed by a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at the esteemed Pepperdine University. Amy advanced her knowledge base through exceptional training at various sites including as a school counselor for K-8th grade. It was there that she learned how to work with families and their children to assist in creating connection and change in their family system. In addition, the trainings gave her the experience to explore the feelings and thoughts of young individuals who are navigating life challenges. As an avid clinician, Amy brings a unique warmth to her clients since she understands the struggles that adolescents must navigate through. Her love for today’s youth makes her a special beacon of hope and encouragement at Adolescent Growth.
Amy affirms that she enjoys working here because she “enjoys being able to work with a wide range of issues such as anything from depression, anxiety, mood disorders, addiction, trauma, grief, and parent-child conflict. It’s also great working with a multidisciplinary team who is also supporting the people we serve”. Amy is compassionate, competent, and driven in her life’s calling to be a catalyst of change for hurting teenagers and their families.
In her spare time, Amy relishes in scrap booking, spending time with her lovely cat, and finding good food spots to enjoy a great meal.
